Probabilistic Climate Change Projections for Singapore and Surrounding Regions

Focus Areas:

  • Earth Systems
  • Regional Analysis

The goal of this project is to study the future climate change of Singapore and surrounding regions. Using the MIT Integrated Global System Model (IGSM) and a 3-D atmospheric and ocean general circulation mode (CESM) coupled with a size- and mixing-dependent aerosols model, among others, we will quantify differences in factors such as convection, precipitation, cloud coverage and surface heat fluxes. The ensemble predictions made by the global climate model will be used to drive a regional climate model and a regional ocean model, and eventually a dynamically coupled global-regional climate model framework to predict the regional climate features of Singapore and surrounding areas. This work represents the first step towards coupling global and regional models, and thus accounting for the effects of both large- and local-scale influences on climate.
