Bio

Dr. Popat Salunke is currently a Postdoctoral Associate in the Center for Global Change Science (CGCS) for the Joint Program at MIT. Before joining MIT in 2023, Dr. Salunke formerly served as a Research Associate at the DST CoE in Climate Modeling, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), India. Dr. Salunke obtained his PhD in Atmospheric Sciences from the Centre for Atmospheric Science, IIT Delhi, India. His PhD research focused on Orographic Impact of Himalaya-Tibetan Highland on Climate System and his research interest includes Climate Modeling, Climate Data Analysis and Application, Climate Change and Climate Extremes, Indian and Tibetan Monsoon Dynamics, Geoengineering, and Statistical Analysis. He has published extensively in these research areas in recent years.

At CGCS, his research focuses on executing the MIT Earth-System Model (MESM) driven by Economic Prediction and Policy Assessment (EPPA) models in support of the production of our large uncertainty/large ensemble experiments. The coupling of the EPPA and MESM models represents our Integrated Global Systems Models (IGSM) framework. In addition, his role here is to execute a number of simulations using the Community Earth System Model (CESM) that are aligned with IGSM/MESM scenarios.
