Matthew Amengual is an Assistant Professor in the Institute for Work and Employment Research (IWER) at MIT Sloan. This coming Spring, Matthew will teach classes in the MIT Sloan Initiative for Sustainable Business and Society. His research concerns the ways in which institutions promote economic development that is both equitable and sustainable. His current project, based in Argentina, identifies ways in which weak and politicized states enforce labor and environmental regulations. In addition, his recent research on the basis of complementary interactions between private-voluntary and state labor regulation appeared in the March 2010 issue of World Development. Mr. Amengual has performed field research in Argentina, Honduras and the Dominican Republic. Matthew received his AB in environmental studies from Brown University, and his master’s in City Planning and forthcoming PhD in Political Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
